Almost everybody reading this blog knows what blood donation is - a healthy human being, when has enough amount of good blood in his or her body, donating part of it, in hygienic conditions, under the guidance of a qualified doctor and the related medical staff. So far I donated my blood four times. Once at my degree college, later at a hospital in Hyderabad when a patient from our community needed blood immediately and twice at the Chiranjeevi Eye & Blood Bank. On 15 November 2008 and on 13 June 2009, I donated blood at the above collection and distribution center in Hyderabad. I earlier heard bad news alleging that unwanted things are happening even at this blood bank. I am not a child to think that Chiranjeevi and his family members are drinking others' blood. Idiots and rogues in politics utilized every opportunity to blame Chiranjeevi during the recent state elections in Andhra Pradesh.
It's a matter of pleasure to donate blood because:
1. Human body is a creation of God and is meant to serve others. Blood is part of our body and donating it minding others' helplessness and needs is undoubtedly a noble act. It is a simple favor we can do to our fellow human beings when we are alive.
2. It shows our growth as a gentle and kind human being when we do it voluntarily without expecting much education or motivation from other quarters. Our satisfaction as a good human being based on the little good thing like this helps us grow more as human beings and serve others even better as far as we can manage.
However, it is unfortunate that many patients and other stakeholders in the manipulative Indian health industry today are suffering a lot due to lack of availability of relevant blood (groups) during their emergencies (operations that need blood to be supplied from outside immediately).
Educated youth have to take this initiative forward and guide their friends and relatives to donate blood voluntarily. Blood is plenty in India like the water we have in our rivers and oceans but very few know that they can donate blood to help others in time. Superstitions rule the lives of many Indians even to this date. Let them know that donating blood does not harm anybody but it helps us in many ways. It is not enough if you are a good human being but you must make a few others also good human beings with your constructive thoughts and ideal acts. Better late than never.
It is quite coincidence that tomorrow happens to be the World Blood Donor Day. I knew it when I was interacting with the PRO and Donor Counselor Ms. Sridevi at Chiranjeevi Eye & Blood Bank at Banjara Hills. This executive looked beautiful and endearing. She spoke with me and my brother-in-law Vamsy for about five minutes explaining me the benefits and merits of donating blood. I liked her skills and manners and her enthusiasm to guide others to fulfill the duties of her job.
I introduced 18-year old Vamsy today to the tradition of a noble human act to serve the contemporary society - Donating Blood Voluntarily. I like to donate my blood once for every three months hereafter at this center as long as I continue to stay in this city and at other similar centers if I move to other places. I knew when I was born but I don't know when I die. Everyday is precious to me. The realization that I could help somebody else a little helps me become better as a human being.
It is also a matter of happiness to me that the reporters of TV 9 Telugu came to this center when I was donating blood along with a few others. When the fellow was moving around me capturing the scene to telecast it on their TV channel tomorrow, I told him that my name is also Chiranjeevi. He remembered me and scheduled a little comment with me as I woke up from the stretcher after donating the blood. He asked me to talk a little about the act of blood donation. He gave me a little input as to what I should speak. I felt it as a golden opportunity because every simple human being initially likes to see his face on a television channel talking something good about a noble cause. It was first time for me to talk a little before the persons of electronic media.
I spoke out something similar to the following with the TV 9 people this morning: "Paropakaaraardha Midham Sareeram" say our elders. Human body is meant to serve others. Blood is part of our body which we can donate happily once for every three months as long as we are healthy and capable enough to donate our blood. Educated youth must come forward to participate in this noble act voluntarily and spread this message among their near and dear ones. Such massive movement across the nation helps us save the lives of a few patients and other stakeholders when they badly need blood. It gives us a feeling of satisfaction and social service. It helps us become and continue to be good human beings".
My brother-in-law Vamsy told me after my little talk with the TV agents, "It would be telecast tomorrow on TV 9. Let's watch it". It may be telecast from tomorrow morning on TV 9 or it may not be telecast at all if the editor deleted my part of the input. I would be happy with the both.
I am feeling happy today to know that I could donate my blood for the second time at my dear Brother Chiranjeevi's charity unit. Chiranjeevi might not have been a considerable victor in politics as we witnessed it recently but his endeavor to serve the society this way is something I always appreciate. I wanted to reach my best wishes and gratitude to this gentleman this way - acting for a noble cause than talking or writing about it more than enough.
I request my "earthly goddesses" Swagata, Deepthi, Sakshi and others reading this blog to take this movement forward at their end and help others a little. If you found quoted phrase unacceptable in the above sentence, I request you to file a big lawsuit against me in the Supreme Court of India. I have much to talk with you over there. Who hears me if I talk with you in some dark corner of India. I have no time or interest for such minor tasks.
Donate Blood.
Save Others.
Be Good Humans.
God blesses us.
