COMMITTEE ON TELANGANA ISSUE

Dear Shri Duggal,

Congratulations on being on a committee scheduled to formally comment on the future of Telangana people. A number of committees were instituted earlier in India to advise the governments on various burning issues. You know how many of those recommendations were implemented by the respective governments. I don’t believe there is democracy in India today but a set of interest groups who fight for their selfish and narrow-minded causes in the disguise of politics, businesses and unions. There is no patriotism or a sense of national integration in 90% Indians today. Their thoughts and pursuits are centered on one question “How much do I benefit from it?” but not “Is it good for all in this region and India?”

I am 32, from Visakhapatnam district, a coastal Andhra region, currently in Hyderabad. I have been living here for the last eight years. I should not write anything about the culture or nature of Telangana people because I did not study them deeply. I can’t comment on a set of people based on my ignorance. I believe that common Telangana people are more ignorant, reliable and innocent than those in Andhra region. I do not think common people change the future of their region on their own unless it is a question of oppression and exploitation beyond imagination. The movement for a separate Telangana state was started and run by intelligent and influential people in this region over the years. Now K Chandrasekhara Rao is leading it along with his other team of activists and supporters. It is a question of their self-respect because theirs is a different culture and history from that of other two regions. I believe that a separate Telangana state must be created as early as possible to establish and sustain normalcy and peace in this region. We can’t take all decisions based on rationality and scientific thinking because issues do not arise that way and can’t be settled in that fashion. So avoid the question of good or bad in this direction. Just give it.

It is true that there is great contribution of people from the regions of Andhra and Rayalaseema in developing the region of Hyderabad. This region developed more than other places in this state only because it is the capital city of this state. Capital cities are the attractions of all in any state. You should make the people of Rayalaseema and Andhra believe that they are not losing anything by leaving Hyderabad in Telangana region. This is where your expertise has to work wonders.

Many are fighting in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions now for united Andhra Pradesh. They are fake movements and strikes. Interest groups from this region, who have large amounts of assets and other interests in Hyderabad region, are organizing these movements investing money for it hugely. No sensible man in this world ever fights to remain with the other when the other has no interest at all to live with him any more for reasons he is aware of. Telangana people can live happily if they get separated from the other two regions. When a child cries continuously for your positive decision for two hours, you have to do it to satisfy him. How it turns out should not be your concern. They know how to conduct and develop themselves on their own. God creates intelligent and visionary people in all regions. So we need not think that Telangana region perishes if it is left in the hands of its people. Even if they are innocent, God guides them.

Unscrupulous and self-centered political parties, individuals and other interest groups from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions might send you letters arguing on the point of need of United Andhra Pradesh. If you are in favor of thieves and dacoits from a given region in India, you can mind their voice as well. Interest groups always argue on false and misguiding grounds. Let them shout endlessly and calm down on their own slowly. If bad people do not conform to a decision taken by other good people, it is right to suppress them brutally. Do whatever you can to suppress the noise from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions after the announcement of statehood to the Telangana region. You can’t satisfy all the groups equally when there is a heated up issue among them to be settled forever by your intervention and judgment. Some take it silently and others have to be treated adequately to bring to our expected path of balance and peace.

Appreciable and acceptable character is important to an individual or society. Good ones always live happily with others. Telangana people continue to be our brothers and sisters even after this separation.

I am not writing this letter representing any interest group in this state or nation. I love India as an Indian. I want to see all Indians healthy, prosperous, peaceful and harmonious enjoying the beauty and sweetness of coexistence with others around them. I am an individual thinking and acting as a sensible and sensitive Indian. India shines when all Indians think and work for India, not only their community, region or religion.

Emailed this morning to vkduggal.ccsap@mha.gov.in to share my opinion on the issue of separate statehood to Telangana. An active citizen needs to react to a given situation when it matters to him.
